Based on the research of Charles T. Krebs, Ph.D. &
Susan McCrossin, B. APP. SC.

(from Complementary Health News Journal)

One of the most common factors associated with learning problems is a “blocked” Corpus Callosum, the site of hemispheric integration. A blocked Corpus Callosum also generally results in poorly developed access to Gestalt or Logic functions.

An even more important, yet often unknown factor affecting learning, is a profound deep level confusion in mental processing which we term “Deep-Level Switching”. In people with Deep-Level Switching, their brain confuses the location of their Gestalt and Logic processes causing massive processing problems as information is often routed to the wrong cerebral hemisphere for processing. While Right-Left, Deep-Level Switching may profoundly affect, our academic learning, Top-Bottom and Front-Back, Deep-Level Switching can have equally profound effects on learning “life’s lessons”. Unless this “Deep-Level Switching” is resolved and the “blocked Corpus Callosum, ” cleared, people can never realize their true learning or human potential.

A number of kinesiological techniques and acupressure techniques can help reintegrate brain function at the electromagnetic, neurological and emotional levels. For those who have long-term, ongoing loss of brain integration resulting from experiences traumatic enough to permanently shut down part, or most of the communication across the corpus callosum, or who experience the massive brain confusion that we call deep level switching, more specific ic and direct interventions are required. The Learning Enhancement Advanced Program (LEAP) protocol can help address these imbalances. This article addresses these issues based on the research and experience of Charles T. Krebs, Ph.D. from Australia and Susan McCrossin, B. APP. SC. from the U.S.

Mental processing of activities seems to take place in the most ancient part of the brain, in the limbic system, with its various nuclei and the paleocortex. The brain, using hierarchical processing, determines how information is sent, stored or retrieved. With learning disorders some processes seem to go off-line. Dr. Krebs surmised that the brain processes in a modular fashion. If one of the antecedent functions were compromised, all the processes dependent on that function would also show deficits. A way to unlock the processing sequences was needed.

Applied physiology and kinesiology interacts with on-line brain processing, and allows the integrity of modular or sequential brain functions to be directly assessed. Using only a few specific muscle tests, whole configurations of brain functions such as the integration of visual processes, can be accurately discerned. Stress or dysfunction in mental processing can be easily detected by monitoring muscle response in conjunction with the activation of specific acu-points, either singularly or in combination.

Whenever any factor disrupts coherent homeostatic muscle proprioception (feedback), a locked muscle may suddenly weaken or unlock, indication that this factor is acting as a stress in the muscle feedback system. Thus using only a few specific muscle tests, whole configurations of brain functions such as the integration of visual processes, can be accurately discerned.

For a full discussion of Kinesiology and muscle response testing you are referred to Dr. Kreb’s book, “A Revolutionary Way of Thinking: From a Near Fatal Accident to a New Science of Healing”‘.

Applied physiology techniques for brain physiology formatting, developed by Richard Utt of the International Institute Of Applied Physiology, Tucson, AZ, provided the guidelines for the primary neurological processing modules and a basic format to access them. Utt showed that by focusing on the physiology of the brain itself, the readout of brain function would often show up as a pattern of acu-point activity instead of single active acu-points.

Once the pattern of stress, as indicated by a pattern of acu-point activity, was detected by muscle response testing, factors causing that stress could be pinpointed, and kinesiological and acupressure techniques could be applied to normalize the area. Thus, in the case of dysfunction in communication across the corpus callosum, as soon as the stress, or stresses that caused shutdown of functions were resolved, processes vital to learning could come back on-line.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and other techniques revealed that in all but one of sixty one cases not responding to LEAP treatment, the underlying cause of learning problems was organic brain damage.” Brain damage can occur before, during or after birth even from a blow on the head, oxygen deprivation or seizures. As long as the affected areas are either small, or in a non-critical centre of function, the brain is able to compensate but may function less efficiently.

If damage occurs to a critical structure, like the left hippocampus, problems in the auditory or short-term memory processing develop. These processing functions weren’t changed, because pre and post-testing of Weschler Intelligence digit-span test, a standard measure of auditory short-term memory, remained the same for these brain damaged individuals.

FUNCTIONAL SHUTDOWN

In cases not involving organic damage, hippocampal function can usually be restored via acupressure treatment. In several hundred cases psychometric post testing has shown a return to the normal range of auditory short-term memory and even more importantly, a child was from then on able to remember spelling of words and retain multiplication tables’. For example, consider a 12 year old girl with a digit span of only 3 digits forward and 2 digits backwards. This low functioning would place her in the lowest percentile of same-age children for auditory, short- term memory function, and was thus having extreme difficulty at school as she had basically no short-term memory. After applying hippocampal formatting techniques, she improved to the 50th percentile for children her age. She had gone from practically no useful function to average ability for her age. She could now access enough short-term memory to learn spelling words, and for the first time in her life, could recall her multiplication tables even weeks after learning them. She improved from the 25th percentile in innate reasoning capacity to the 99.81 percentile following treatment. Literally, she went from the bottom of her class to the top of her class in six months.

Learning is a voluntary activity. Even if you have optimal brain integration you may choose not to use it for a variety of personal and emotional reasons. Teenage boys can be some of the least satisfying clients because in many cases they are brought to treatment under protest. Even if these teenagers currently choose not to take advantage of their new state of integrated brain function, reintegration does give them one big advantage: they now genuinely have the ability to develop a function if they want to use it in the future. Before integration they had little chance of developing these function.

For example, during a follow-up visit after completing the brain integration program with a 15-year-old, his mother reported that his spelling had shown no improvement. He was then checked for his ability to learn to spell words, which he easily demonstrated. He was then asked to spell some words he had learned as part of the program months before. Again there was no problem. He had demonstrated his ability to learn to spell any word quite easily and to remember it, but he was just choosing not to do so at this time and for his own reasons. The integration was showing up elsewhere: He now had 70% accuracy shooting baskets in basketball. Prior to treatment he had been shooting with 20-30% accuracy.

An encouraging counterpoint to that case was the case of a 16-year- old boy who passionately loved reading and who was desperate to be able to spell well. He came for integration and in the two weeks following the correction of his spelling functions he mastered 150 words that had always given him problems. At his next appointment, he bought in a list of the 50 most difficult words and asked to be tested on them. He got all but one right. Six months on, he had no spelling problems of any note and continued to be highly motivated to succeed in an area where he had previously experienced only failure.

EEG PATTERNS AND BRAIN INTEGRATION

An EEG allows scientists to look at the patterns of electrical activity generated by the cortex of the brain when it is performing an activity. Traditional forms of EEG, using only three reference points, were inconsistent, showing a varying degree of correlation between the type of mental task and the areas of the cortex showing activity, How were the researchers to distinguish if activity was due to the stimulus they were initiating, or some other brain activity, such as random thoughts?

A study was made by McCrossin with five learning-disabled adults ranging in age from 18 to 45. Primarily, they reported reading comprehension and short-term memory problems. The study concentrated on a new EEG method known as Steady-State Visually Evoked Potential (SSVEP). In this SSVEP technique 64 electrodes are placed on the scalp, covering all processing areas of the cortex. In this way, specific areas of cortical activity can be identified, particularly against the constant stimulus of a flashing light. When the data from the electrodes is fed into a powerful computer, detailed maps of cortical activity can be constructed. While being SSVEP scanned, if a person is asked to consciously do a particular mental task, he will automatically activate specific brain areas related to the performance of that task. In the area that is active, the SSVEP signal is reduced and the degree of reduction is proportional to the degree of activation of that area. An activation map of the brain was drawn.

In a previous study comparing children with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) to normal subjects on two different mental tasks, the SSVEP patterns of these two groups showed significant differences. When normal subjects were doing a purely visual task, observing a computer monitor displaying numbers, their brains showed activity predominantly in the occipital lobes in the back of the brain, where visual image formation takes place. When they were then asked to anticipate, or pay attention to a particular signal, their cortical activity switched to the frontal lobes, the area of the brain involved in attentional tasks. In ADD children, the brain activity did not change. Activity remained predominantly in the occipital lobes even when they were paying attention.

Children with ADD or adults with learning problems often just watch their world and react to whatever happens with little anticipation of what might occur because they cannot activate the brain areas involved in “paying attention” which is required for anticipating outcomes. Likewise, since prefrontal activity is also required for “planned” decision-making, and there is little prefrontal activity when people with ADD and learning problems make decisions, it would appear that these decisions must depend more on “reaction” to stimuli than on planned actions based on considered decisions.

Along with these changes in cortical activity, after LEAP there was concomitant improvement in the adult subjects digit span and reading comprehension. Before integration, the reading comprehension of the group had varied from 33 per cent to zero, after LEAP all had 100% comprehension. On the digit span test, all subjects changed from being marginal or borderline in their function to being above-average. Changes in both these mental functions is supported by the significant changes in cortical activity observed in the SSVEP results.

WHAT IS INTELLIGENCE?

Intelligence has been defined as being composed of two distinct aspects: “fluid” and “crystalline” intelligence”. Fluid intelligence is the capacity to perform abstract reasoning which involves “native” intelligence and is thought to be unaffected by formal education. This includes the ability to solve puzzles, memorize a series of arbitrary items such as words or numbers, as well as the ability to change problem- solving strategies easily and flexibly. Crystalline intelligence, on the other hand, comprises the abilities that depend upon knowledge and experience or the amount of stored factual knowledge such as vocabulary and general information.

A number of standardized intelligence tests like the Wechsler Intelligence Scale of Children (WISC) and Stanford Binet Intelligence Test, have been developed to measure various aspects of cognitive function. Regardless of whether these psychometric tests measure “intelligence” or not, they do provide a standard assessment of performance in a variety of cognitively demanding tasks.

In a second study by McCrossin, three standardized tests of fluid intelligence were chosen to help measure intelligence: the WISC Block Design subtest, the Kaufmann Matrices and Inspection Time”. The subjects were also tested on short-term memory and reading comprehension. The WISC digit span subtest was used as a measure of short-term memory, retrieval and distractibility. The Neale Analysis of Reading, a standardized test to assess reading comprehension, was also applied. Twenty children were initially assessed on the five psychometric tests and then were retested six to eight weeks later. In the intervening period the ten children in the treatment group had the complete LEAP protocol performed on them. The ten children in the control group received no treatment, but were retested at the end of the study.

Empirical observation and scientific validation of these tests show that fluid intelligence generally does not improve over time”. From this data it has been assumed that a person’s past and future performance will be the same (or, allowing for growth, will hold their relative position amongst their peers). This appears to hold true for children with learning disorders even when they have received extensive remediation.

The McCrossin study found statistically significant improvements in all of the tests of fluid intelligence between the pre- and post-tests for the treatment group”. No changes occurred in the performance of the control group. The LEAP protocol was shown to be capable of changing the innate reasoning capacity of these children. It was capable of affecting profound changes including the demonstrable ability to apply flexible strategies to solve problems.

The complex task of digit-span (short-term memory and attention) also showed significant differences before and after treatment between the two groups. There was an increase in the forward digit span from 4.8 (before treatment) to 6.2 (after treatment) and an increase in the backwards digit span from an average of 3.1 (before) to 5.5 (after). Since the average adult digit span is six forwards and five backwards these children had clearly improved from a deficit in this vital function to “above normal” 14.

With the LEAP program, problem areas within the brain can be detected and corrections can be made to enhance reading, motor coordination, visual perception and psycho-neural responses.

ADHD and LEAP

Some children who come to the LEAP program are classified as hyperactive and taking Ritalin to control it. Often when a child is going through the brain integration program of a LEAP, these children will calm down and maintain this state even after withdrawal from Ritalin. Parents often report that LEAP has resolved the child’s hyperactivity.

The LEAP protocol has such potential for improving the lives of so many children and adults, extensive testing by a major medical school or other research facility would seem to be a worthwhile investment.

Madonna’s comment: I have been using the LEAP programme in my clinic for over 10 years. We currently have 3 LEAP Practitioners in our clinic, as I see it as a core method in supporting people’s health and wellbeing along with helping memory, learning and children’s anxiety about attending school and exams.

So, you’re in pain and you’re brain doesn’t feel the way it used to? Depression? Anxiety? Panic Attacks? or just don’t have the memory you used to have??? Pain hormones create inflammation, inflammation creates brain conditions/symptoms such as our ADD, ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Allergies and Memory Loss…

Brain Inflammation… sounds awful doesn’t it? Did you know that it’s impossible to have any of ADD, ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Memory Loss without brain inflammation? It’s an increasing problems these days:

1 in 12 kids have ADD/ADHD

1 in 91 kids have autism/aspergers (this was 1/1000 10 years ago…)

1 in 3-6 kids have allergies (very much linked with ADD/ADHD/Aspergers/Autism)

1 in 2 people over 50 years old will have dementia by 2030

Scary statistics!

But does it feel like there’s nothing that can be done? Medically it’s a matter of give this drug (a calming down drug) in the morning and this drug (another calming down drug) at night… not to mention the side-effects and family stress associated with the problems of these conditions.

There are some things we can do immediately to start the process of reducing the inflammation in the brain! Kinesiology helps us target the correct things for you and your family - not everyone needs every intervention, and that would be exhausting!

Stop wheat, gluten and dairy: many kids have a DPP4 enzyme deficiency which creates an ‘opioid’ effect in the bloodstream which can literally make them act like they’re on drugs! Hyperactivity, tantrums, exhaustion, brain-dead…

Colourings, preservatives and flavourings: these overload metallothioneine pathways in the liver, the ‘particles’ create the inflammation in the brain, and cause hyperactivity and extreme anger symptoms in susceptible bodies…

Salicylate Sensitivity: often in kids with nasal allergies, red rashes. Salicylates are an aspirin-like substance that thin the blood (the liver, the skin, the gut - in susceptible people) and can cause huge problems where there’s an issue.

Sugars, fructose, glucose issues: many kids don’t have an ability to break down sugars properly. Kids foods are soooooo linked with sugars these days, all the pre-packaged spreads and biscuis, tiny teddies, fruit juices, cereals, muffins… If there is ‘insulin resistance’ the body is not getting the sugar into the cells, insulin is floating around outside the cells - yep, creating more inflammation!

Auto-Immune Components: Through live blood screenings and kinesiology we can find out if there’s the possibility of an auto-immune condition affecting the brain. Current thinking with Autism (particularly) is that an old staph/strep infection is affecting the basal ganglia in the brain, directly affecting moods, behaviour and how we interact with our world around us.

Heavy Metal toxicity: Lead, mercury, cadmium and aluminium (regularly in medications we give our children such as vaccines) are very well documented to be a link in ADD, ADHD (lead particularly), Autism (aluminium and mercury particularly), Aspergers and Allergies

LEAP Kinesiology: is a specific process done at New Leaf Natural Therapies that re-integrates the pathways of the brain. The more toxic the brain is (the more inflammation, insulin, opioid-like-substances, sugars, flavourings, colourings, preservatives) the more likely our brain pathways won’t be functioning properly. See if any of these problems sound familar for someone you love!

Amygdala stress: the amygdala is a part of the brain that is activated when we’re under stress. IF we’re stressing, and we don’t get our logical and creative thought processes finding a solution quickly enough, we whip into an old ‘amygdala’ pattern. (This is the same pattern that people with PTSD and Vietnam Vets know all about) The amygdala holds patterns of:

fight and flight (these can be fully activated or have exhaustion)

pain and punishment circuits (kids who are constantly in trouble are easily ‘labelled’ and therefore their brains and always expecting the worst. This doesn’t help behaviour in any circumstance where there’s always a pattern in place

escape, submission, freeze: some kids brains just ’switch off’, they look like they’re ‘not paying attention’ but their brains are just overloaded and they can’t take anymore

rage, anger, frustration (need I say more?!?)

pleasure and reward centres - switched off! this creates depression, anxiety, panic attacks, lack of enjoyment with day to day activities

Our Learning Enhancement Programme has been put together to get the best results and to save you $$$. Ask about our 9 month programme (standard length of time for ‘normal’ learning and behavioural issues). More complicated health problems take longer to resolve - but we’ll see how we’re going as we go through the sessions.

You know, I hear it in my clinic each and every day - my doctor’s checked my blood sugar levels and I’m totally ok… Doug or I check their insulin resistance and it’s in the high risk for diabetes. It’s damaging and inflammatory and it’s NOT OK!

What is insulin resistance?

It means that when you eat carbohydrates (anything that turns into sugar - grains, sugar, flour, fruits, starchy vegies (potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, corn etc) creates insulin which, instead of creating energy, increases inflammation and is NOT giving you energy… Your cell membranes are either not functioning properly - not allowing insulin inside the cells OR the internal pathways within the cells are getting jammed and not allowing the energy production from insulin.

Is insulin bad?

No. It is a crucial hormone - each and every cell in your body requires it to make energy.

Is insulin resistance bad? What health problems does insulin resistance cause?

Yes! When insulin isn’t getting into our cells it becomes a very inflammatory and dangerous hormone which has the ability to create:

blood sugar issues

dizziness

diabetes

peripheral neuropathy

dementia

memory issues

degeneration of the nerves in our hands, feet and brain

chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia

insulin, being a hormone, if out of whack can create an imbalance with any other hormone

How can I find out if I have insulin resistance?

We do a simple blood test (2-3 drops from your finger - the more hydrated you are the easier the test is!!!) which gives us the results in about 3-4 minutes. Easy!

Are there supplements I can take to reverse insulin resistance?

Yes there are: My favourite supplements are

Insulex; 6 daily which is for insulin resistance combined with lots of pain

Resist X; 4 daily which is for insulin resistance, sugar cravings and low energy (also helps girls gain a ‘waist’ over a period of time; contains ingredients such as korean ginseng, cinnamon and chromium

combination of these 2 if it’s really dangerous!

Krill oil works through increasing HDL cholesterol (good HDL levels are crucial for good hormone production and decreasing our risk of stroke, heart disease and diabetes) - there are many qualities of krill oil - be careful with supermarket brands

Shake It Extra - high protein meal replacement with the ingredients of insulex in the formula.

What foods should I avoid until my insulin resistance is within the ’safe’ range?

Anything that turns into sugar is very inflammatory and exhausting for your body to cope with when we have insulin resistance. Insulin is a fat-storing hormone when out of balance - and a huge reason for obesity.

All grains and flours: wheat, rye, spelt, rice, oats, barley

All fruits

All starchy vegetables: potatoes, pumpkin, carrots…

breads, cakes, cereals (obviously - they contain the ingredients above)

sugar (yes, I commonly get ask if it’s bad)

alcohol - turns straight into sugar - and our body burns it down first, before anything else!

Starting to make a little sense??

NEURAL ORGANISATION TECHNIQUE (N.O.T.)

I love NOT… having met Dr Carl Ferrari in 1998 I loved the concept, the process and the fact that he had so much proof that this gets to the cause of so many problems, I was impressed!

Having studied thoughout Australia with Australian and United States specialists who have developed techniques that deal with identifying and correcting faults in the nervous system, I feel like it’s one technique we have which can change people’s lives. Neural Organisation Technique is fantastic: its originator, Dr. Carl Ferrari, used muscle response testing to find the basic sequences or “programs” that we are all built with on a primitive level.

It encompasses knowledge from chiropractic, acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, reflexology, Neuro Linguistic Programming, and more. What is unique to Dr. Ferreri’s work is that he has found order in the system so that there is very little guesswork in making corrections. The protocols for correcting the body are to be done in a specific sequence every time on every person. It is as if someone has found the owner’s manual for the basic neurology of the human body and the reflexes to correct and reset it!

For example, one can reprogram an immune system by correcting a sequence of 15 to 18 reflexes on the body in about 5 minutes. To demonstrate the specificity of the technique, one can then reverse the sequence and recreate the faulty immune system for demonstration purposes. We can do this with the hormonal programs, scoliosis, learning disabilities, etc. This is a very powerful, very specific and very encompassing technique that takes only 120-150 minutes to complete all corrections! It is accomplished with very low force, and once it is done, the disorganization DOES NOT USUALLY RETURN unless there is a new significant trauma.

At first I found this hard to believe, however I have now treated many patients globally who have returned a year later for re-examination to show that all the corrections were still holding.

Every condition known to man involves nervous system disorganization at a base causative level. Therefore, one of the primary treatments in correcting any condition would be to correct and reorganize the nervous system using this technique before continuing with another modality. The body is organized functionally into four primal survival systems which are generally known as the feeding, fight/flight, reproduction and immune systems. All physiological, neurological, vegetative and cognitive activities must function within or through these survival systems in an organized and integrated manner. In order for the body to survive, these systems must be organized within themselves first and then must be integrated and synchronized with each other. This organization is manifest through the integrated function of the central nervous system. Various kinds of stress including physical, emotional, chemical, or environmental trauma can, and many times do, interfere with the harmonious and organized function of these reflex systems and ultimately the central nervous system itself.

Neural Organization Technique (NOT), a non-invasive, kinesiologically-based treatment protocol, is designed to recognize any of the disorganizations that may be found within the neural programmes of these primal survival systems if damaged or otherwise compromised. The treatment protocols are then designed to specifically organize or reorganize a disorganized central nervous system. A disruption of the natural balance within these previously synchronized processes will cause a change in the electromagnetic (EM) field in various parts of the body. This EM change can then be measured, analyzed and treated. Homeostasis is then restored to the body by activating combinations of the known reflex systems, acupuncture meridians, muscle spindles, magnetic energy, cranial and spinal bone balances and nutrition which control these systems. The key to the success of this treatment protocol is that it recognizes the need for the specific organization and integration of all systems within the body.

The body is a totally integrated biological and energetic entity where everything affects everything else in one way or another and as the old song goes, the “head bone” is really connected to the “foot bone”. It is impossible to treat one part of the body without affecting or causing stress or change somewhere else in the body.

The list of conditions treated with this method almost reads like a pathology book because it is so diverse. This is because the treatment protocols are aimed at the neurological, physiological and energetic deficits which either cause or allow the condition or deficit to exist, and not necessarily at the condition itself. It doesn’t matter what you have or what you call it but rather why you have it. We don’t treat the disease but we do treat the causes.

Neural Organization Technique is unique in other ways not found in other treatment protocols. The NOT examination and treatment protocols take into account the body’s awareness of itself and the circumstances of life as it is lived. Eyes open and closed, light and dark and half-light conditions (dawn, dusk, etc) and various eye directions are a normal part of the usual examination and treatment procedures. Also considered are changing body positions (getting up from sitting or lying), cold, heat, walking, jumping, running, sitting in the car, etc. which very often influence the memory of the circumstances surrounding the condition. These circumstances, when included in the treatment protocol, are almost always key to successful treatment and usually make for rapid and successful conclusions to any condition.

Problems treated by NOT

Some of the many conditions which I have successfully treated or corrected include:

Headaches

Learning disabilities/dyslexia

Grinding or clenching teeth, jaw tension/misaligned or clicking jaws

Chronic neck pain and whiplash injuries

Chiropractic adjustments that don’t hold

Acute or chronic back pain, disc degeneration, and sciatica

Arm, hand, leg, or foot pain

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Frequent urination/incontinence

Nausea

Food sensitivities

Allergies/frequent colds and coughs

Immune and autoimmune disorders

Acid reflux, chronic gas bloating and belching

Female and male sexual problems

Thyroid conditions

Hypoglycemia/Hyperglycemia/Diabetes

Sleeping problems

Concentration difficulties/Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD)

Chronic tiredness/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Multiple Sclerosis

Vertigo, balance problems, motion sickness, difficulty with heights

Asthma/shortness of breath

Visual and hearing difficulties

Epilepsy

Traumatic brain injury

Down’s syndrome

Cerebral Palsy

The method of examination for all of the above is based on kinesiological concepts in which a strong muscle indicator [a muscle which can resist reasonable force on command] is used. This method accesses the body’s own knowledge of itself. If there is a functional or structural deficit anywhere in the body, there will be a change in the electromagnetic energy in that part or function. When that part or reflex area is touched by either the examiner or the patient there is a distraction to the overall energy field as the body tries to compensate for the change. This change is registered in the test muscle and the muscle momentarily weakens on stress.

The Interconnectedness of the Body

Nothing happens in or to the body without total body awareness of the incident. This awareness is communicated through an intact nervous system so that the body can accommodate the particular incident and can act appropriately to survive. As these systems are involved in our basic survival, they must also of necessity be reflex in nature, that is, automatic, needing no cognitive activity or training to function. Trauma in all of its possibilities can and does disrupt the neural programmes within these reflex systems which then send inappropriate signals to the body.

There is an axiom in neurology which is known as the ‘all or none’ rule.

If there is sufficient stimulation then that neurological program must fully activate and if not, it will not. Our research has identified the specific areas in or on the body which will activate the neural circuits within these programmes. They in turn control all possibilities including posture, gait, balance, movement, glandular, immune, digestive and cognitive functions.

A frequent question asked by both patients and doctors is “how long does it last?” If the corrections are made properly and completely, they usually last until the patient re-injures themselves, which may be many years later.

I personally use other techniques in the field of emotional and energetic healing to assist people in their return to wellness. Neural Organization Technique, however, must be done with every person to ensure that the body computer can hold onto the corrections, be they physical, emotional, or dietary.

There are less than 100 Neural Organization Technique doctors around the world and we have worked for years to decipher and correct the neural faults that appear specific to each and every condition known. We are all amazed at Dr. Ferreri’s genius at what he has created and I continue to follow in his pioneering footsteps by making myself available for treatments, lectures, research projects, and training.

Call us today for an appointment to regain your life! Whatever the reason you have found us, we can help! 99% of conditions can be helped with us here at New Leaf Natural Therapies.

Foods making us sick, causing us pain?! Time to take a new look at research from around the world!

I’ve just returned from a anti-ageing & obesity congress on natural medicine, we had speakers from around the world, experts in their fields, researchers in inflammatory processes of foods (and the body), and basically we found that over 30 years, research has been done looking into prevention of many health issues: diabetes, cancer, heart disease and auto-immune diseases… with changing the foods we eat, or negating the inflammatory effects of foods.

There are links with really specific genes interacting with certain allergenic foods - these activate our genetic ability to create disease, unfortunately at this stage there is no medical test which finds these connections, however, the following have been found to create issues:

Grains, especially wheat and gluten containing foods cause ‘leaky gut’. Every time we eat wheat and gluten, our gut isn’t as strong as it should be and ‘food particles’ are released into the bloodstream creating inflammation. Inflammation causes pain and disease. Wheat and gluten are not good!

Saponin and lectin containing foods also create leaky gut and inflammation. Studies were done to find out which foods had the highest amounts of these substances: pretty much all grains contain these in differing amounts, but soy scored the highest andd rice, amaranth, wheat, barley, oats all contained these substances.

Dairy milk creates insulin resistance, a pre-diabetic condition. It is also linked to short-sightedness and acne. Interestingly, in our clinic when we’ve improved the insulin resistance in clients, their eyesight often improves, they see things much more clearly. So kids drinking milk, getting acne and needing glasses has now been linked to being a pre-diabetic condition. Insulin in big amounts is very inflammatory! At the very least pop in to our clinic and have your insulin resistance checked out!

So basically we found compelling research that the health conditions killing people these days: cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity are very much linked to the food choices, including many ‘healthy’ choices, so once again, food needs to be individualised.

What to do?

The Paleo Diet/Mediterranean Diet/Keto Diet/Shake It Diet

These diets consistently help the body heal and repair. They all have:

plenty of high quality proteins: meats, fish, eggs, low-fat hard cheeses, nuts and seeds

plenty of good quality vegetables (3 handfuls per meal) and fruits (best are the berries, lots of colours, only 1/2 cup per day)

plenty of fluids such as herbal teas, dandelion coffee, purified water

limited grains

limited dairy milk

limited coffee, tea and alcohol

And then we’re looking at reducing inflammation each time we eat… For example, we could take a couple of purified fish oil capsules such at MetaPure EPA/DHA each time we eat, or some high potency gut bacteria such as Ultra Flora Immune.

So, that’s it for today,
Have a great one…

Are you needing some tools for pain relief and relaxation time with Yoga Classes or Meditation Classes – right here in Wynnum, Brisbane? The problem with planning to relax at home is that we often either never get around to it, or simply don’t know what we’re doing so that it’s not that relaxing anyway! We have remedial yoga classes and meditation classes here at New Leaf Natural Therapies. The mind is incredibly powerful, the more we train it to relax, visualise and create your own healing powers in our meditation classes, the more quickly you’ll be able to access these tools on a day by day basis.

There are real reasons for poor diagnosis, medically, of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Fibromyalgia. Think about what happens in chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia – medically there is often nothing outstanding in the blood tests, slight variations in iron levels, liver function, but nothing conclusive. There may be a little rise in inflammatory signs, and yet medically this will be blamed on ‘fighting a bug’, ‘pain’ or ‘being tired.’

Anything that slows down metabolism, makes the blood supply sluggish, upsets the liver and digestive tract can be involved in chronic fatigue. Isn’t it time to start dealing with the reasons, one by one, and get your life back on track??

Here are various reasons for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia and what tests we do to confirm/deny this is a problem for you.

the body is too acidic (urine test)

the body is inflamed (live blood analysis and cellular analysis/VLA)

heavy metal toxicity (urine test)

candida (blood)

celiac (blood)

helicobacter (blood)

insulin resistance (blood)

low HDL cholesterol levels (blood)

fungal and mould spore infestations (blood & kinesiology)

allergies/intolerances (live blood analysis & kinesiology)

general toxicity (live blood analysis & cellular analysis/VLA)

tooth toxins/amalgams

scar tissue toxins

environmental allergens & intolerances (kinesiology)

endocrine issues – thyroid, adrenals, sex hormones (kinesiology)

adrenal stress (kinesiology/blood)

emotional stress/post traumatic stress syndrome

poor immune system (live blood analysis)

geopathic stress

electromagnetic stress (kinesiology)

viral and bacterial load (live blood analysis & urine test)

parasites (live blood analysis)

digestive issues and leaky gut syndrome (live blood analysis)

poor diet

smoking, drugs and alcohol

You can see why the one-reason-fits-all ’cause’ that they’re looking for medically doesn’t work. In all of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia clients we see, there has been a combination of causes that we find through our various testing processes.

Our naturopaths all have experience in dealing with these causes, can recommend treatments to help speed up the healing processes and will recommend lifestyle changes that ultimately will save your cells!

Do you have blood sugar highs and lows? Insulin Resistance can be a huge contributor to pain: causing us to store fluid, become more acidic, be more inflamed… and doctors RARELY find it!

We work with many weight loss challenges in our clinic, and insulin resistance is huge! We have a small blood analysis machine that tells us on the spot how ‘insulin resistant’ someone is. This is a pre-diabetic condition which medically doesn’t get picked up due to the fact that it’s NOT diabetes. Medically (and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this) they are always waiting for tests to be bad enough to 1. put us on medication; 2. send us to a specialist or 3. operate.

I tell my clients all the time ‘thank goodness they didn’t find anything!!’. Insulin resistance means that the cells are not taking in insulin easily and/or the internal mechanism of the cell which deals with insulin isn’t working.

One of my clients yesterday has been exercising his butt off, changing his diet and weight hasn’t come off. Yesterday his insulin resistance was huge (about 6x maximum level for ’safe’ insulin levels - no wonder his body isn’t losing weight. The small amounts of carbohydrates he’s having (fruits, rice crackers, bread…hmmm, and cereals) are simply storing as fat. His body can’t handle them at the moment.

By the way, insulin is a very inflammatory hormone when out of whack - it can be a major cause of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and pain.

Luckily we have some fabulous products which help reverse insulin resistance.
